Georgia’s 10 largest high schools by enrollment

If you have a Hamilton Mill  high school student, then you are quite aware that some of Georgia’s largest high schools have more students in one school than some districts have in all schools combined (or in some cities for that matter!).  As a community, Hamilton Mill has adjusted quite well.  When it comes to other schools in the Gwinnett County System, how does their enrollment stack up?  Here’s a look:

1. Mill Creek High School, Gwinnett County Public Schools, 3,678 students

2. Norcross High School, Gwinnett County Public Schools, 3,592 students

3. Brookwood High School, Gwinnett County Public Schools, 3,334 students

4. Berkmar High School, Gwinnett County Public Schools, 3,314 students

5. Peachtree Ridge High School, Gwinnett County Public Schools, 3,157 students

6. Meadowcreek High School, Gwinnett County Public Schools, 3,050 students

7. Collins Hill High School, Gwinnett County Public Schools, 3,026 students

8. Lowndes High School, Lowndes County Public Schools, 2,840 students

9. Parkview High School, Gwinnett County Public Schools, 2,796 students

10. East Coweta High School, Coweta County Public Schools, 2,761 students

It is currently being presented to district administrators within the Gwinnett County School System  the need for new high schools to relieve overcrowding at Meadowcreek and Norcross high schools.  The presentation included an outline that one new school specialize in health sciences and another focus on teaching students about careers in international business, finance and law.  The presentation also outlined the possibility of additional charter, magnet or theme-based schools. They said the schools could help students explore various careers and gain credit for experiences outside the classroom. Potential drawbacks include longer transportation times and narrowing student interest at a young age, officials said in the presentation.

A new high school - Discovery High School - opens this August in Lawrenceville.
