Atlanta, one of the Top 5 Cities for Millennials

Atlanta is ranked as one of the top 5 cities for millennials.  According to Wikipedia, "Millennials (also known as the Millennial Generation or Generation Y) are the demographic cohort following Generation X." This generation is usually classified as those born in the early 1980's to the early 2000'

Money.com used the following criteria for ranking the top 5 cities:  projected job growth above average; cost of living is relatively affordable; and there are high concentrations of amenities, such as grocery stores, pharmacies, and laundromats. These cities also offer leisure activities, including great restaurants, fun bars, and a high population of 20-34 year olds.  

1. Austin, Texas
  • Great quality of life
  • 26.2% millennial population
  • Reasonable cost of living index of 101
  • Projected job growth through 2019 is 13.3%
2. Atlanta, Georgia
  • Great activities, including the zoo, aquarium, art & history museums.
  • 26.2% millennial population
  • Cost of living index of 114
  • Projected job growth through 2019 is 14.3%
3. Columbus, Ohio
  • Great entertainment, convenient, and walk-able
  • 25.9% millennial population
  • Cost of living index of 103
  • Projected job growth through 2019 is 9.3%
4. Tucson, Arizona
  • Revitalized downtown including a range of ethnic restaurants
  • 24.4% millennial population
  • Cost of living index of 105
  • Projected job growth through 2019 is 11.1%
5. Seattle, Washington
  • Vibrant nightlife and walk-able
  • 24.1% millennial population
  • Cost of living index of 120 (slightly above average, but income is also above average)
  • Projected job growth through 2019 is 10.7%
